ContentLink

A ContentLink is a contextually relevant keyword that is discovered in real-time on a web page and is automatically linked to the most relevant ad from among Kontera's thousands of advertisers.

ContentLinks appear as distinctive links marked by a double-underline. When a user mouses-over a double-underlined link, the ContentLink layer with relevant advertising information is displayed. Upon clicking the ContentLink layer, the user is directed to the advertiser's web site. With ContentLink, publishers generate revenue from their content, while advertisers reach their most targeted and relevant audience on a Cost-Per-Click basis. Implementation - Easy as 1, 2, 3

It is extremely easy to implement and use Kontera ContentLink on your site.

Step 1: Get Your ContentLink® Tag

Please copy the ContentLink ad code (tag) that you received in the introductory email. The ContentLink tag consists of several JavaScript lines that will enable our servers to scan your content, classify it appropriately, select the best matching keywords, and serve the best matching ads.

Example of ContentLink Tag:

If you have misplaced your tag you can always retrieve it from the Publisher Center by logging in to your Kontera account at https://publishers.kontera.com. Select the “ContentLink® Setup" tab and copy the JavaScript tag from the interface.

Step 2: Add ContentLink® to Your Site

For manual implementation paste the ContentLink tag into your site's HTML source code. Be sure to paste the tag right before the closing HTML tag on all your site's pages. Please remember not to paste the ad code within an IFRAME or DIV.

Many web sites automate this action by including a placeholder footer on the page and adding the ad code, or by running a script that copies the ad code to all pages. This is an extremely efficient option.

If you are using Blogger, WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, we have created the following plugins and widgets to simplify the JavaScript implementation:

Blogger:
Login to your account at https://publishers.kontera.com. Select the "ContentLink™ Setup" tab, and press the "Kontera it!" button for one-click ContentLink integration. Read More » http://blog.kontera.com/2008/06/10/new-widget-for-blogger-from-kontera/

Step 3: ContentLink® Implementation Successfully Completed
From this point everything works automatically unless you wish to perform advanced customization (see the next section for information). Within 24 hours you will be up and running and you will be able to monitor your account's performance via the Kontera Publisher Center at https://publishers.kontera.com.

During the first two weeks, our Account Management and Operations teams will optimize your site. Results during this period may vary and may not reflect the product’s full potential.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the optimization process or questions about placement of the ad code on your pages, please use the following resources:

Optional Customization

1. ContentLink® Link Color
Login to your account at http://publishers.kontera.com and select the "ContentLink® Setup" tab. Select the color that best suits your site's aesthetic from the color palette or fill in the HEX color code in the appropriate field. Click on the "OK" button and an updated tag will be created. Now copy and paste your new tag to your site's HTML Source.

2. Keyword, Advertiser, Topic Control
We will set the following restriction parameters for you upon request:

  • Keywords – block specific keywords from being highlighted on your site.
  • Advertisers – block specific advertisers from showing up on your site.
  • Advertisers – block specific advertisers from showing up on your site. Be sure to send us either the exact advertiser’s URL as it is shown in the ad or a screenshot of the ad. Topics – block specific topics (travel, automotive, etc.) from your site.
Please allow at least 24 hours for the changes to be reflected.

If you need more information, please email us using the contact/support form located in the Publisher Center "Help tab" at https://publishers.kontera.com

3. Zone Tags
In some cases publishers are interested in greater control over the exact ContentLink placement within their pages. For example, you might want to only have ContentLink in the main paragraphs and not on the bottom section of a page. To achieve this, you will need to use Zone Tags. Zone Tags have “open” and “close” tags. When you apply them on your pages, we will only place ContentLinks in the text between the opening and closing Zone Tags. You can use the Zone Tags as many times as you would like on a single page.

Zone Tag Example:
Let’s assume you have a page with two paragraphs and you only want to have ContentLinks placed in the first paragraph:

Typical global climate simulations use spatial resolutions of about 300 kilometers (186 miles), which limits their ability to simulate climate and climate change on a regional scale. For example, with these lower resolutions it is difficult to assess climate changes, and the resulting societal impacts, in the climatically varying regions within California.

The high-resolution global climate simulations were run on a number of large computers at LLNL and on two machines at the Department of Energy's National Energy Research Supercomputer Center (NERSC).

You can use the DIV tags as many times as you would like on a single page.

4. Filter Tags
In some cases publishers are interested in restricting certain areas of their pages. To achieve this, you will need to use Filter Tags.

Filter Tag example:
Let’s assume you have a page with three paragraphs and you do not want to have ContentLinks in the first paragraph:

For example, with these lower resolutions it is difficult to assess climate changes, and the resulting societal impacts, in the climatically varying regions within California.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How quickly will ContentLink® ads appear on my site?
After being accepted to Kontera's network, setting up your account and successfully pasting the ContentLink tag onto your web pages, ContenLinks will start appearing on your site after 12AM PST.

2. How do I optimize my site for the most relevant ads?
Our ability to target ads for a Publisher’s site depends on the content and structure of that site. Here are some basic guidelines for optimization:

  • Place the tag on pages that predominately contain text, since only text is used to determine a page's context. Kontera’s page analysis process occurs in real time and this ensures that relevant ContentLinks will be served regardless of how frequently your content is updated.
  • If your site contains frames, be sure to place the tag in the frame that has the majority of the content.
  • Do not place the tags within IFRAME or DIV tags. This will cause technical issues. Refrain from any tag modifications that are not listed in this document or other official Kontera documents.
  • If you've made some modification to the ContentLink tag parameters, test the functionality of your newly created tag on a few pages prior to launching across the full site.

3. Can I place the ad tag on more than one site?
We would gladly welcome your additional sites into Kontera's network. For better tracking of your sites' individual performance, we issue unique ContentLink tags for each site in our network. Please send us a request to issue additional tags using the "Help Tab" in the Kontera Publisher Center. Be sure to list all the URLs you are interested in adding and our Support Team will handle your request ASAP.

4. Can I filter competitive or undesired ads from appearing on my site?
Yes, you can request to block specific advertisers from showing up on your site. Please note that filtering advertisers may decrease the number of ads that can appear on your pages as well as decrease your revenue potential. Please contact us using the "Help Tab" in the Kontera Publisher Center, and include in your request either the exact advertiser's URLs as shown in the ads or a screenshot of the ad you want blocked.

5. How and when do I get paid?
Our payment terms are Net 30, first week of the month, when an account's balance exceeds US$100. This means we send publishers their revenue by check, PayPal or EFT, the first week of the month, 30 days after the month that they have earned this revenue, when the account balance reaches US$100, unless a payment hold exists or unless requested by the publisher in their payment information. For example, if you earn $40 in January and $70 in February, we'll send payment to you the first week of April.
